Grandparents’ Day at Bayview Avenue School was a celebration of grandparents and special people – both of whom are, in most cases, one and the same. “We appreciate your love, warmth and wisdom – they are cherished,” Principal Odette Wills said in her opening remarks to the students, staff and invited guests gathered in the school auditorium. Special guests Linda Agoado and Deccie Robinson from the neighboring Meadowbrook Care Center were honored with front row seats for the assembly and presented with certificates and floral arrangements by students.
Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham was on hand for the annual festivities, which featured live student performances coordinated by vocal music teacher Jeannie Rodriguez and art teacher Laurie Kolodny. Groups from kindergarten, first, third and fourth grade presented speeches, choreographed songs and performed skits that professed endearment for their special guests.
After the assembly, the guests were invited to visit classrooms and share in the learning experience for the rest of the morning. There were also numerous Grandparents’ Day-themed bulletin boards and related displays in the lobby.
