Giblyn’s Adopt-a-Cop ceremony, originally scheduled to take place in November and postponed due to Superstorm Sandy, recently took place much to the delight of the students and staff. Freeport police officers were placed with loving, adoptive classes during the annual Adopt-a-Cop program. This year’s theme for the program is “Positively Golden,” which goes along with Giblyn’s golden anniversary celebrations. “It was a wonderful adopting ceremony,” said Amanda Muldowney, principal. “It emphasizes Giblyn’s positive attitude and strength in returning to a community-based program that was put on hold due to Sandy.” The program pairs up police officers to each fourth grade class. During the year, the officers act as mentors while visiting and writing letters to the students in their assigned classes.
