Freeport High School’s annual homecoming celebration brought hundreds of community residents, many dressed in red, together for a parade, carnival and Red Devils game against longtime rival Baldwin.
Prior to the game, the district PTAs and other fundraising groups populated the school parking lot with booths featuring carnival games, food, school apparel and crafts.
The Freeport High School Navy Junior ROTC led the parade, which included the marching band, homecoming court and cheerleading squad. Christian Rodriguez and Alyssa Wiscovitch were named homecoming king and queen.
The cheerleaders took their place near the end zone and got the crowd on their feet when they stretched out a huge Freeport banner that the Red Devils broke through as they ran onto the field. The Freeport Red Devils Marching Band played the national anthem as the junior ROTC presented the flag at the 50-yard line.
School Superintendent Dr. Kishore Kuncham, Board of Education President Debra Mulé, Vice President Vilma Lancaster and trustees Ron Ellerbe, Michael Pomerico, and Anthony J. Miller were joined by Village of Freeport Mayor Robert T. Kennedy to cheer on the Freeport team.
The Red Devils defeated the Baldwin Bruins by a final score of 21-6. Quarterback Davelle Hooks connected on nine of 11 passes for a total of 76 yards.
