For the fifth year in a row, the students of New Visions School of Exploration and Discovery came out on top in the Freeport Memorial Library’s Summer Reading Club Challenge, having logged more books read than any other school in the district. The school was awarded a trophy and certificate by Freeport Memorial Library Director Ken Bellafiore during a special assembly.“Congratulations – a total of 925 books were read by 62 New Visions students,” reported Bellafiore in his presentation. “That’s a lot of books.”
As part of the trophy ceremony, the top readers were acknowledged. Four of the top six Freeport Library summer book readers attend New Visions. The top reader was Karina Rios who, with 93 books read, exceeded her total of 82 from last year. Other students rewarded were Katelin Lopez, Kelvin Lopez, Lucca Noboa and Jonathan Rios.
Prior to the awards ceremony, fourth-grade students performed a skit that parodied George Lucas’s “Indiana Jones” saga in which the treasure being sought is a trove of books.
