Students at Leo F. Giblyn Elementary School spent a fun packed night devoted to hands-on learning with student teachers from Adelphi University in the first in a series of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) workshops. Approximately 100 third- and fourth-graders signed up to participate in the evening that included a CSI (Crime Scene Investigation) chemistry lesson, a density experiment based on water floatation, and a tasty physics project that solved the mysteries behind the making of ice cream.“The students and their parents were able to participate in interdisciplinary activities that helped them meet the new Common Core Standards in a fun, interactive way,” said Principal Amanda Muldowney who worked with District Director of Science Dr. Vincent Pereira and Adelphi University Professor Emily Kang to facilitate the event.
