J.W. Dodd Middle School music teacher Sherill Spruill was recently named a Dowling College/News 12 Long Island Educator of the Month in an in-classroom ceremony. Every school year, Dowling and News 12 recognize those educators who positively impact their students in a unique way.“Ms. Spruill is a highly successful educator,” said Dr. Clyde Payne, dean of Dowling’s School of Education, who presented the award. “She is one of the best of the best.” He spoke glowingly of Ms. Spruill and her long list of accomplishments, including the recent establishment of the J.W. Dodd Jazz Vocal Tapestry group, who performed a few songs for Dr. Payne prior to the presentation.“She stirs the soul and inspires youngsters every single minute of every day,” stated Freeport Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kishore Kuncham, who also spoke at the presentation.
All 12 Educators of the Month will be gathered for a testimonial dinner in June 2013.
