The Freeport High School Music Department brought the classic high school musical comedy Bye Bye Birdie to its stage for a two-performance run that fully captured the iridescent energy of the original 1960s production and induced the audience to “Put on a Happy Face.”
Led by a cast that included Nick Ashe as Albert, Emliss Niangne as Rosie, Crystal Jackson as Kim, Aleya Warner as Mae, and Sebastian Gonzalez as Birdie, the show recaptured the not-so-distant past when TVs relied on the air waves and phones did not. The audience gave a rousing applause after each song in a fashion that was, as the score would suggest, “Honestly Sincere.”
Arielle Cooperman was the director and Caitlin Donovan was the orchestra conductor of this production.
